"The Suitor" by Jane Kenyon

We lie back to back. Curtains
lift and fall,
like the chest of someone sleeping.
Wind moves the leaves of the box elder;
they show their light undersides,
turning all at once
like a school of fish.
Suddenly I understand that I am happy.
For months this feeling
has been coming closer, stopping
for short visits, like a timid suitor.

Loving...

Jonathan Goldstein and "WireTap" on CBC. Jonathan Goldstein plays the neurotic straight man tortured by his nutty friends in this hilarious radio show. Free podcast from iTunes.

The Baxter. I am personally holding a grudge against the world for the fact that I have never heard of this 2005 movie until today. Easily one of my new favorites. It perfectly straddles the line between the feel-great romantic comedy of something like "You've Got Mail" and the awkwardness of "The Office" or a Woody Allen movie (without perversion). I have to warn you that trailer makes it look so boring and formulaic - just rent the movie!

Chris Lilley. Comic chameleon and all-around genius from "We Can Be Heroes" and "Summer Heights High." I can't stop watching his stuff.

Two Wonderful Recent Discoveries:

Here's the Thing YouTube Channel
People narrate and explain the significance of a series of 25 photos of objects in their homes. I can't explain why it's interesting. Just watch.

They Draw and Cook! Deliciously illustrated recipes by a variety of different artists. This reminds me of Aubrey's virtuosic abilities in the kitchen at a young age. The only problem - he couldn't read yet. So Emily and I drew out instructions for cookies and chocolate cake.

SLO-Town Love

"...full of sun and loveliness and a kind of invitation, so that you wanted to climb into their warm foothills almost as you want to climb into the lap of a beloved mother. They were beckoning mountains with a brown grass love."

- John Steinbeck, East of Eden
